Secondary amenorrhea is defined as the cessation of regular menses for three months or the cessation of irregular menses for six months. It has a prevalence of 3 to 4 % in women of reproductive age. The causes vary from hypothalamic, pituitary, thyroid and adrenal disorders to ovarian and uterine causes. Patients often have only subtle or minimal signs clinically. Endocrinologist plays an important role in the evaluation and management of these patients. This session will focus on evaluation and management of secondary amenorrhea, in the context of general endocrinology practice.
