Prof. Dr. Martin den Heijer, MD, PhD
Martin den Heijer is a leading clinician‐scientist specializing in endocrinology, with particular focus on hormone therapy, transgender health, metabolism, and aging. He holds a full professorship in Endocrinology at Amsterdam UMC / VU University Amsterdam, where he leads research in effects of hormone therapy in transgender people and people with DSD.
His research focus is on gender‐affirming hormone therapy, its long-term safety and effects, and its impact on cardiovascular risk, metabolic health, bone health, and other endocrinological endpoints. His work combines rigorous cohort and clinical trials methodologies with real‐world clinical practice, aiming to improve both safety and efficacy of hormonal therapies.
