Megan R. Haymart, MD, is a Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes at the University of Michigan, where she holds the Nancy Wigginton Endocrinology Research Professorship of Thyroid Cancer and serves as Director of Thyroid Cancer Research. She earned her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, completed her internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Wisconsin. She joined the University of Michigan faculty in 2009.
Dr. Haymart has held numerous leadership roles in national endocrine organizations, including past Board Member of the American Thyroid Association (ATA), Associate Editor of Thyroid, President of Women in Thyroidology, and Clinical Science Chair for the Endocrine Society Annual Meeting. She contributes to both the NCCN and ATA thyroid cancer guidelines.
Her NIH-funded research focuses on optimizing thyroid cancer care delivery. Dr. Haymart’s contributions have earned multiple honors, including the ATA’s Van Meter Award (2017), the Woman of the Year Award from the ATA and Women in Thyroidology (2021), the AACE Hossein Gharib Education Lectureship Award (2021), and the inaugural AACE Endocrine Care Innovation Award (2025) recognizing her team's impact on clinical outcomes and health care delivery.
